Girl Scout Health Professions Day I (Half day) 2010
Date/Time: Saturday, January 9, 2010, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Students assisting in a full day will report to the SHP at 9:00 a.m. and remain until around 3:00 pm. Student participating Half Day will report at 9:45 am and remain until around 12:45 pm. All students are to sign in as they arrive and report to their assigned area. Participation: Open to all students. (15 points are awarded for participation one half day participation. More will be awarded for all day and for assisting with planning/organizing. Limitations: Maximum student participants needed is 35, we need at least 6 student representatives from each discipline/department. Description: This event will make the girl scouts aware of careers in the allied health professions and their associated educational programs at the SHP/UTMB. INDS students are needed for registration, small group sessions, skits, hall monitors/guides, greeters and timekeepers. Activities: • INDS students interested should email Michelle Conley at maconley@utmb.edu to participate in this event. Students may be given a variety of assignments, based on need and interest. • Students assisting in a full day will report to the SHP at 9:00 a.m. and remain until around 3:00 pm. All students are to sign in as they arrive and report to their assigned area. • Write a reflective essay summarizing your impressions of the day, to include: the interest level of the scouts you interacted with; and, what you learned about other disciplines as a result of the event. This essay is due one month after the activity date. Activity Objectives: • Assist in conducting a health care career fair for girl scouts, and encourage their interest in health professions. • Learn about and interact with students from disciplines other than your own.
