Career Fairs
(15 points)

Date: As scheduled for each event.

Participation: Open to all SAHS students.

Description: Introduce youth to the possibility of a career in an allied health profession. Develop an entertaining presentation about your chosen career, to include: education required to enter professional school, time/training required to complete your education, tye type of work you will do, what type of patients you will see, how you can make a difference with your patients, and the personal benefits of your profession.

Activities:

Email Michelle Conley with pertinent information about the event for approval for INDS points.

Prepare your presentation (individually or as a part of a group), to include an outline and handouts, or other materials used, or a powerpoint presentation. (You might want to contact your SAHS department for potential "give aways" for your audience.)

Make your presentation as scheduled.

Write a reflective essay (due one month after the event is held). Critique your presentation in regard to strengths, weaknesses, timing, age appropriatness, and interest level of the audience. Answer the following questions:

What made the activity interesting for the audience?

What part of the presentation would you change if you were to repeat it?

Did you learn anything about any other health professions that may have made presentations? If so, what?

Send your presentation materials to Michelle Conley (maconley@utmb.edu) as an attachment when you have completed the essay and evaluation.
